چکیده

We define residuals for point process models fitted to spatial point pattern data, and propose diagnostic plots based on them. The residuals apply to any point process model that has a conditional intensity; the model may exhibit spatial heterogeneity, interpoint interaction and dependence on spatial covariates. Some existing ad hoc methods for model checking (quadrat counts, scan statistic, kernel smoothed intensity, Berman’s diagnostic) are recovered as special cases. Diagnostic tools are developed systematically, using an analogy between our spatial residuals and the usual residuals for (non-spatial) generalised linear models. The conditional intensity λ plays the role of the mean response. This makes it possible to adapt existing knowledge about model validation for GLM’s to the spatial point process context, giving recommendations for diagnostic plots. A plot of smoothed residuals against spatial location, or against a spatial covariate, is effective in diagnosing spatial trend or covariate effects. Q–Q plots of the residuals are effective in diagnosing interpoint interaction.

Residuals for spatial point processes based on Voronoi tessellations

A residual analysis method for spatial point processes is proposed, where differences between the modeled conditional intensity and the observed number of points are assessed over the Voronoi cells generated by the observations. The resulting residuals appear to be substantially less skewed and hence more stable, particularly for point processes with conditional intensities close to zero, compa...

Properties of Spatial Cox Process Models

Probabilistic properties of Cox processes of relevance for statistical modeling and inference are studied. Particularly, we study the most important classes of Cox processes, including log Gaussian Cox processes, shot noise Cox processes, and permanent Cox processes. We consider moment properties and point process operations such as thinning, displacements, and superpositioning. We also discuss...

Two-step estimation for inhomogeneous spatial point processes

This paper is concerned with parameter estimation for inhomogeneous spatial point processes with a regression model for the intensity function and tractable second order properties (K-function). Regression parameters are estimated using a Poisson likelihood score estimating function and in a second step minimum contrast estimation is applied for the residual clustering parameters. Asymptotic no...

Using Voronoi tessellations to calculate residuals for spatial point process models

This paper proposes a residual analysis method for spatial point processes where differences between the modeled conditional intensity and the observed number of points are assessed over the Voronoi cells generated by the observations. The resulting residuals are substantially less skewed and more stable than residuals based on a regular grid. These advantages are particularly evident for point...

Bending-Unbending Analysis of Anisotropic Sheet under Plane Strain Condition

The mechanical behavior of cold rolled sheets is significantly related to residual stresses that arise from bending and unbending processes. Measurement of residual stresses is mostly limited to surface measurement techniques. Experimental determination of stress variation through thickness is difficult and time-consuming. This paper presents a closed form solution for residual stresses, in whi...
